2011/2012 IGA STATE RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The IGA State Relay Championships were held on Sunday 4 December at Santos Stadium.

Congratulations to all our athletes that competed on the day, you did yourselves and GGLAC proud. Our athletes won 3 gold, 3 silver and a bronze, we also had teams in most finals as well. GGLAC finished 6th on the Centre rankings, only three points from 3rd.

The Mum and Dad's did exceptionally well in their 4 x 100m relays with the Mum's successfully defending their Gold from the past two years and the Dad's improving on last year's bronze with Silver. Debbie wants the Dad's to start training from this week so that next year they too can win Gold!!

A big thank you must also go to all the parents for getting the athletes there on time and helping out with getting them to the marshalling tent on time and for fulfilling your parent allocation duties throughout the day.

As season 2011/2012 is SALAA's 40th anniversary there was a big emphasis on the march past and all the Centre's put in a big effort with their banner's, decoration's etc. Unfortunately we didn't win best, that went to Elizabeth, however all reports were that our athletes put on their best behaviour for the march past and whilst sitting on the track listening to the speeches. Again, well done GGLAC athletes.

Weather conditions were much better than last year, with some windy periods during the day making it hard work for those running the bottom bend and up the home straight. Give me those conditions any day rather than the 39 degrees we had last year!!
