ABOUT GGLAC AND LITTLE ATHLETICS
Little Athletics encourages children aged from 3 to 17, regardless of ability, to strive to achieve their best in the full range of athletic events. At Golden Grove Little Athletics Centre the emphasis is on Family, Fun and Fitness (Little Athletics Motto), and to be Your Best.
Little Athletics teaches more than sports skills, with discipline, respect and teamwork are all part of the training.
Tiny Tots is for children who are 3-4 years of age. The emphasis here is on FUN while developing basic motor skills through simple games.
Little Athletes (6-17 year olds) compete in a variety of events, Track Events of Sprints, Hurdles and Middle Distance running and Field Events of High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus and Javelin.
To find out your Age Group go to the SALAA Age Group Calculator.
Studies show that children who have participated in Little Athletics have better coordination, flexibility and mobility.
Home Meets are at Tilley Reserve and are usually on Saturday mornings from 8:45am. We also have some Friday Night Twilight Meets. New athletes are welcome at any home meet (check the program for more details).
During the season, the Little Athletes have the opportunity to participate in special events such as the Northern Region Championships, Australia Day Hurdles, State Relay Championships*, Multi Event Championship, Personal Best Day and State Individual Championships* along with Inter Club meets. *Qualifying criteria applies, details will be posted once available.
Training (whilst not compulsory is recommended) will be held on Monday evenings this season from 5.15pm to 6.30pm
Little Athletics is a Family sport and cannot operate without Parent involvement. A parent or guardian must remain at the centre whilst their child is participating in the activities. During the meets, our Centre requires chaperones for each age group to supervise athletes, officials to conduct the events and helpers to carry out tasks, such as, measuring and raking jumping pits. These are simple tasks that can be done by almost everyone. Kids love to see their parents helping out.
Volunteers are essential for the Club to operate as there are many jobs that must be done each meet. It is expected that each family will do their bit to help out with either the set-up or pack-up of equipment, Canteen or BBQ.. A roster will be setup for each meet so the work is shared amongst all families. Please honour your commitment and arrange to swap with another family if you can't assist on your allocated date.
SALAA has a Code of Behaviour and a number of Policies that are also a part of the GGLAC culture. We recommend you familiarise yourself with them.
For more information, email the Committee. We also have a Facebook Page, for general discussion and up to date information on upcoming events.
